Professional and commercial trumpet players often find it helpful to have two or three mouthpieces with different cup depths. Deeper cups work better on legit, symphonic and jazz music, while shallow cups work better for lead and solo parts. To make the transition between pieces smooth and easy, the rims should be identical. A set of trumpet mouthpieces with identical rims, same shape cups, but differing cup depths is called a “kit”. Legends Brass currently offers three trumpet mouthpiece kits (see below).
Another scenario many players come across is the need for a quick switch between horns. A good example would be a trumpet piece which has a flugel solo. In this case, a trumpet and flugel mouthpiece kit can be very helpful. If the rims are identical, the transition is much easier. Legends Brass now offers a Sandoval Trumpet/Flugel kit (see below).
