This model is inspired by a mouthpiece played by the legendary Maynard Ferguson. In the late 1960’s, Maynard worked with Jack Bell, a mouthpiece craftsman in England. Together they created the FBL (Ferguson-Bell Limited) series of mouthpieces. Three depths were originally created, the TS (shallow), TM (medium) and TD (deep). Rumor has it that Maynard was using this series of mouthpieces when he recorded the original “MacArthur Park”. Legends Brass was able to scan a vintage FBL TM for this design. The rim is round and extremely comfortable, to support those extended upper-register riffs. Cup depth is very hard to quantify because it is a V from rim to cup. A best estimate would be similar to Bach D (medium shallow). To make this mouthpiece more accommodating to a wide range of players, it has a #27 throat and the Legends S backbore.
