Legends Brass’s JT Mouthpieces are modernized versions of the vintage mouthpieces used by many famous trumpet players of the ’60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. These mouthpieces, made by Ray Amado and Bill Ratzenberger, were played and loved by such trumpet superstars as Maynard Ferguson, Bill Chase, Al Hirt, and many more. Many of the original models are no longer available, but Legends Brass offers modernized versions! Each Legends JT model begins with a scan of the rim and cup of a vintage mouthpiece, which is then recreated with a level of precision and consistency only possible with CNC technology. The Legends JT RE was inspired by a famous mouthpiece created by Ray Amado, and played by the legendary Roy Eldridge. The rim is unusually narrow, with an inside diameter of just 0.550″. The cup is very shallow, similar to Bach F. It’s got everything you need to play in the upper register all night long, the way Roy Eldridge did it, with a focused, sizzling sound!
The Legends JT MF Master was inspired by a mouthpiece made by Ray Amado for the legendary Maynard Ferguson. The rim just melts into the cup, which is a medium shallow to shallow convex V.
The Legends JT MF Monster was inspired by a vintage mouthpiece actually played by the legendary Maynard Ferguson. The rim is round with a small inside diameter (.590″), and it gradually melts into the convex V cup. The Legends LA backbore is a copy of one used by Johnny Madrid. This mouthpiece has melded inspiration from two trumpet masters – and two masters make a monster!
This series of mouthpieces is inspired by a mouthpiece made by Ray Amado for the legendary Charlie Shavers. It has a wide slightly round rim and shallow cup. In case you’re “Undecided”, it’s available in seven different inside rim diameters ranging from .590″-.650″.
The JT MF mouthpiece was inspired by the famous Maynard Ferguson mouthpiece made by Ray Amado. The rim just melts into the cup, which is a medium to medium shallow convex V. Come on, “get on the bus” and give it a try!
Legends JT MF C: A more traditional version of the JT MF. It’s got the convex V cup, and a round comfortable rim, but it also has a little undercut for chop room and bite.
The Legends JT Super C: Combine the small inside rim diameter, the shallow convex V cup, and the focused backbore together and you’ve got a recipe for Super C!
The Legends JT AH is based on a vintage Al Hirt mouthpiece possibly made by Ray Amado. The rim is wide and relatively flat and has some undercut going into the cup. The inside diameter is .600″, and the cup is shallow.
The JT RS was inspired by a vintage RS2, which was made by Ray Amado for the legendary Roy Stevens. It has a round, soft rim available with inside diameters of .654″ (like the original), and .624″. The cup is a shallow V bowl, and the backbore is the Legends Vegas.
Legends JT BC, Inspired by a vintage Custom Bill Chase trumpet mouthpiece. The rim is relatively wide and flat and has some good undercut going into the cup. The bowl shaped cup is medium shallow (similar to Bach D). The JT BC is a modern re-imagining of a legendary vintage mouthpiece.
The Legends JT DT is based on a vintage trumpet mouthpiece. The inside diameter is a comfy 0.630″, with a shallow bowl-shaped cup. The throat is a slightly tight #29, with a Legends Manhattan (very focused) backbore. This mouthpiece will give you a focused lead sound with nice core and sizzle. You might be sitting in the orchestra pit, but you’ll be the star of the show!
The Legends JT 1B PS trumpet mouthpiece is based a vintage mouthpiece created by Bill Ratzenberger in the late 1980’s. The rim is semi-flat with some undercut, and a 0.656″ inside diameter. The cup is a medium shallow bowl.
Legends JT RR P is based on a vintage trumpet mouthpiece. With an inside rim diameter of .670″ and a medium shallow to shallow cup depth, this mouthpiece is a good fit for players with big chops who want to play in the upper register. Try the JT RR P and let your range soar to heavenly heights!
The Legends Brass JT MF2 was inspired by a vintage MF2. The rim gradually melts into the cup, which is a true convex V. Rim diameter is about 0.625″ – bigger than the JT MF and smaller than the JT MF3. The design is iconic, and it was created for a legend!
JT B: inspired by a vintage mouthpiece made by Ray Amado. The inside rim is 0.640″, the traditional “B” shape with undercut, and the cup is medium shallow.
The JT 1A: Inspired by a vintage trumpet mouthpiece made by Ray Amado. The rim is somewhat flat, inside rim diameter is .656″, and the cup is medium shallow.
The JT 2B was inspired by a vintage 2B trumpet mouthpiece made by Ray Amado. It has the traditional B rim and a medium shallow to medium depth cup.
The JT 2D was inspired by a vintage 2D trumpet mouthpiece made by Ray Amado. It has the traditional D rim, which is slightly more narrow that the A-C rims. The cup is medium depth, similar to Bach C. It has a nice big .656″ inside diameter.
The JT 7M is based on a vintage Studio Model 7M. It has an inside rim diameter of .656″ and medium cup depth (similar to Bach C). This piece elicits a brilliant, flexible sound suitable for studio or big band lead.
Legends JT DS: This model was inspired by a vintage Doc Severinsen mouthpiece given to me by Tony Scodwell (who performed with and was road manager for Doc Severinsen’s Big Band for many years). The rim is semi-round, not too wide, and has some good undercut going into the cup. The cup is medium in depth (similar to Bach C).
The Legends JT MF3: inspired by a vintage MF3, this trumpet mouthpiece has the famous round rim melting into the convex V cup. The inside diameter is about 0.656″, and the cup is medium shallow. It’s a legendary mouthpiece design, used by a trumpet icon.
The Legends JT ST was inspired by a vintage Dave Stahl trumpet mouthpiece. It has a narrow but comfortable rim (.656″) and a medium shallow cup. It’s great for upper register lead, and technical legit playing, too!
Legends JT B.I.G. This mouthpiece is based on the well known Helleberg H7B made by C.G. Conn. It’s got all the same rim and cup specs, with an 8.25 mm straight backbore, American shank, and the impressive new Legends JT Tuba blank. You definitely won’t find this bad boy for sale anywhere but here!
Legends JT Buddy Morrow 2, inspired by a vintage trombone mouthpiece. It has a deep cup and the “B” (symphonic) rim. With this mouthpiece you’ll bring your audience to the dance floor, Buddy Morrow style!
