Description
This mouthpiece was inspired by a vintage Al Hirt Jet-Tone mouthpiece. The rim is wide and relatively flat and has some undercut going into the cup. The inside diameter is .600″, which is smaller than the Ratzenberger-era Al Hirt Jet-Tone models. The original Jet-Tone that was scanned was simply labeled “AH”, meaning it was a personal model or perhaps a prototype. The cup is shallow (similar to Bach E). The throat is a #27, and yields plenty of air flow and a nice big sound. Slotting is excellent with the JT AH. It is kept in stock in the Legends JT blank, which has enough mass to enhance slotting and give the sound lots of core, but not so much mass that the sound won’t sizzle! The rim and cup are identical to the vintage piece, and the backbore is the Legends S. This piece is great for general playing, lead and solo parts.
