Description
The JT MF Monster is based on a piece actually played by the legendary Maynard Ferguson. I received the original piece from Dan Burnham, who was given the piece by Maynard Ferguson in 1983. The rim just gradually melts into the cup, like all the Jet-Tone MF rims, however this one has more bite (lower alpha angle) than others. The cup is medium shallow to shallow (similar to Bach D/E), and a convex V from rim to throat. The throat is really open (#19). The backbore used is the Legends LA, which produces a medium focused sound. The Legends LA was inspired by a backbore used by the legendary Johnny Madrid. This mouthpiece has melded inspiration from two trumpet masters – and two masters make a monster!
