Description
Maynard Ferguson’s first trumpet mouthpiece was a Rudy Muck 13C. He would have used this mouthpiece very early on, before he moved to the United States from Canada in 1948. It is said he modified this mouthpiece himself by sanding down the rim to make better use of the V cup. Rudy Muck eventually made a small number of mouthpieces similar to the hand-modified 13C, labeled “Rudy Muck Cushion Rim 13C Maynard Ferguson”. The Legends RM MF Master is a duplicate of the rim and cup of this mouthpiece, with a #26 throat and the Legends S backbore.
Below is a comparison of a vintage Rudy Muck 13C and the vintage “Rudy Muck Cushion Rim 13C Maynard Ferguson”. The cup is more shallow and the rim more rounded on the Maynard Ferguson version.
