Thank you Dan Burnham for this helpful comparison! The Legends Byrdland and MF HG trumpet mouthpieces have similar specs. If you are trying to choose between the two, the inside rim diameter may be your deciding factor. The Byrdland was designed for Winston Byrd. He is well known for his brilliant and complex jazz improvisation which seems to have no upper limit. The MF HG, on the other hand, was inspired by the legendary “Holy Grail” trumpet mouthpiece made by Dominick Calicchio for Maynard Ferguson. Maynard Ferguson’s comfort and control in the upper register was something that seemed too perfect for this world.
They are both so good you may need one of each!
Legends Byrdland: .626″ Inside Rim Diameter, Shallow to Extra Shallow cup (like Bach E/F), #28 throat, and Legends Manhattan backbore (very focused). $125
Legends MF HG: .623″ Inside Rim Diameter, Shallow to Extra Shallow cup (like Bach E/F), #28 throat, and Legends Manhattan backbore (very focused). $125
