Description
This model was inspired by a mouthpiece played by the legendary Maynard Ferguson. In the late 1960’s, when Maynard was living in England, he worked with a mouthpiece craftsman named Jack Bell. Together they created the FBL (Ferguson-Bell Limited) series of mouthpieces. Three depths were originally created, the TS (shallow), TM (medium) and TD (deep). Legend has it that Maynard was using this series of mouthpieces when he recorded the original “MacArthur Park”. He is said to have played all three depths, possibly interchanging them to compensate for swelling of his chops. A deeper cup played with swollen chops would sound and feel like a more shallow cup with fresh chops. The Legends MF FBL TS rim is very round and extremely comfortable, to support those extended upper-register riffs. The cup is a V from rim to throat. The depth of the cup is very hard to quantify, but a best guess would be similar to Bach E (shallow). To maximize playability of this piece for a wide range of players, it has a #27 throat and the Legends S backbore.
Legends Brass MF FBL Kit:
These mouthpieces have identical rims, and same cup shapes. There are four different cup depths.
