Legends Brass is preserving the history and the sound of legendary trumpet icons by recreating the mouthpieces they played. Back in the glory days mouthpieces were handcrafted by artisans such as Dominick Calicchio, Al Cass, and Rudy Muck. They were lovingly created works of art. Each piece had unique characteristics, which often could not be precisely reproduced with the technology of the day.

When we find a vintage mouthpiece used by a trumpet legend, we start by scanning the original. We may make minor adjustments to improve the general playability of the piece, but we are extremely careful not to diminish its uniqueness. And then we make it available to you, precisely reproduced using modern CNC technology.

We can’t promise that you will sound exactly like the legendary trumpet player you idolize, but we do promise that you will be happy with your Legends Brass mouthpiece!

The Legends Arturo Sandoval: This mouthpiece is based on Mr. Sandoval’s personal Bach Mt. Vernon 3C mouthpiece, which he allowed us to scan. The backbore is a Legends Chicago, which has a broad dark sound, but can really sizzle when pushed.

The Sandoval Flugel has a rim identical to the Bach Mt. Vernon 3C (.642″ inside diameter), the cup is a deep V flugel cup, and the backbore is the Legends flugel backbore. The heavy blank adds core and enhances that fluffy flugel sound. It’s designed to be used with the Legends Arturo Sandoval trumpet mouthpiece as a kit, so the player can easily switch between flugel and trumpet mid-gig. The Sandoval flugel is perfect for that smooth latin jazz sound.

Legends JT DS: This mouthpiece was inspired by a famous Doc Severinsen Jet-Tone given to me by Tony Scodwell (who performed with and was road manager for Doc Severinsen’s Big Band for many years). The rim is semi-round, not too wide, and has some good undercut going into the cup. The cup is medium in depth (similar to Bach C).
