Description
The Legends Satchmo trumpet mouthpiece: inspired by a Louis Armstrong Signature mouthpiece made by Selmer. The rim is flat and has an inside diameter of 0.630″. It’s medium sharp on the inside contour and sharp on the outside contour. The cup depth is medium shallow, similar to Bach D, with a v-bowl shape. The rim and cup are identical to the original Selmer mouthpiece, as is the #27 throat. The backbore on the Satchmo is a Legends S, which is not too focused and not too broad, but well suited to most types of playing.
Louis Armstrong played many mouthpieces over the course of his extensive career. Characteristics evolved over time, but the flat rim shape was generally consistent. Some of the mouthpieces he used were double-cup style, but this one is not. It has a smooth V-bowl shape going into a standard sized #27 throat. The shape of the cup, combined with the shape and contour of the rim, are geared to suit the quick tonguing, high and bright Dixieland sound made famous by Louis Armstrong.
