Description
This mouthpiece is based on a vintage Holton MF6, which was designed for Maynard Ferguson in the early 1970’s. He used the MF6 mouthpiece with the Holton ST301 trumpet, around the time he was recording “M.F. Horn 4&5: Live at Jimmy’s” and “Chameleon”. The inside diameter is very small, about .590″. The inside rim is round, as is standard on mouthpieces Maynard played, but it does have bite. The cup is very shallow (similar in depth to Bach F). The shape of the cup is a slightly convex V. The throat is a #19, which is very open. The Legends MF6 has the Legends O backbore, for an open blow.
Over the course of his extensive career, Maynard used many mouthpieces. The Holton MF6 is said to closely resemble the FBL TS mouthpiece designed for Maynard in the late 1960’s by the English mouthpiece maker Jack Bell. Legend has it that modifications to the Holton MF1 (throat bored out to a #19 and shank modified to have no receiver gap) became the Holton MF6. Check out the Legends MF1 too!
Legends Brass is in no way affiliated with Maynard Ferguson or the estate of Maynard Ferguson. No relationship between the two parties is implied. Legends Brass uses this information solely to honor the accomplishments and legacy of this great performing artist.
